Ethanol plant will expand Cargill's facility footprint in Saxony-Anhalt

Saxony-Anhalt Cargill will invest approximately US$82million in a new ethanol facility in the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. The plant will produce premium ethanol destined for the German and European beverage, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. "This investment by our starches and sweeteners business will allow us to further build on our ethanol expertise in Europe, enabling us to better serve our customers throughout the region," says Frank van Lierde, Executive Vice President at Cargill.

The new facility will be built alongside Cargill's existing wheat processing plant on the company's site in Saxony-Anhalt. The plant will produce ethanol with feedstock from the adjacent wheat facility, using primarily locally grown wheat. It is expected to be operational by fall 2015.

Investors in Saxony-Anhalt benefit from its location in the center of Europe and its state-of-the-art infrastructure. Location advantages include a highly skilled and motivated workforce, excellent investment incentives and a very competitive cost structure. Saxony-Anhalt is home to an outstanding research landscape and a culture of innovation.
