Switzerland is known as a preferred location for companies locating Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) headquarters. One recent example in the life sciences sector is San Diego-based Cytori Therapeutics, which has selected the picturesque city of Zug.


St. Louis-based Sigma-Aldrich has also found Switzerland to its liking and has recently opened its European headquarters in St. Gallen. The company has been operating in the Canton of St. Gallen for more than 20 years.


A Charlottesville-based biotech firm plans to turn an old soft drink bottling plant into a research center in the Virginia city. The site will be developed as the CityCampus Biotechnology Center. Indoor Biotechnologies Inc., a world leader in products and services for environmental sciences, allergy and asthma with sales in more than 50 countries, will be the lead tenant of the new center.

Bayer Healthcare has selected New Jersey for its East Coast consolidation. The company is mulling over possible locations near its existing operations in the state. Bayer Healthcare employs about 2,500 in New Jersey and New York.
