Novelis expands investment in its Saxony-Anhalt plant - the world's largest aluminum recycling center

Saxony-Anhalt In early 2013, Atlanta-based Novelis Inc. launched one of Saxony-Anhalt's biggest commercial investments in recent years, building its most important aluminium recycling facility in the German federal state. The 200-million-euro (US$271-million) project is creating 200 new jobs. Now, Novelis has announced an $85-million extension investment to install a new aluminum automotive sheet finishing line in Saxony-Anhalt as well.

This expansion will create up to 120 new jobs and increase the company's aluminum automotive sheet capacity in Europe to almost 350,000 metric tons. It will also enhance the developing automotive closed-loop model between the company's recycling operations in the UK, and what will be the world's largest aluminum recycling center, a $250-million project expected to be commissioned in late 2014. Saxony-Anhalt is providing support for this investment.

Tadeu Nardocci, President of Novelis Europe states: "We want to become a model for sustainable production and are planning a global network for recycling, which will also include Brazil and Korea. Key factors in favor of the location in Saxony-Anhalt were its central location in Europe, its excellent infrastructure and, of course, the superb work of the approval authorities."

"Why do I read Site Selection?"
Since 'The New Orleans Miracle' article by Ron Starner was published in March 2011 on Site Selection Magazine's website,, GNO, Inc. has circulated and referenced it repeatedly to business visitors and potential investors, as well as citizens of Greater New Orleans. It is a fact-based and compelling piece that eloquently expresses our region's story of recovery. We have read, contributed to, and collected many stories and articles on the recovery and progress of the post-Katrina Greater New Orleans region, but 'The New Orleans Miracle' continues to be one of the best and most effective.
