In Memoriam
With sadness we note the peaceful passing this week of Rebecca Kellam Conway, wife of the late founder and publisher of Site Selection McKinley "Mac" Conway, at the age of 92 in Shiloh near Micanopy, Fla., "her beauty and bright mind intact to the end," writes her daughter, Conway Data CEO Laura Lyne. "Mac wanted to see the world, and she followed him. Everywhere. Always the perfect partner." Read a full tribute and share condolences here. In addition to being a sparkling companion, Becky was a maker of exquisite jewelry crafted from beads, shells and other materials collected from 69 years of globetrotting marriage and often harrowing flights in Mac's plane. She was a jewel of a human being, and we will miss her. — Editors
Feel safe? Police car manufacturer Carbon Motors chose Connersville, Ind., five years ago in a very public site search. But the town was left holding the bag, and an empty former Visteon building, when the company filed for bankruptcy last year. Now the company's former president and CEO, William Santana Li, is leading a new venture, Knightscope, that just announced successful financing to back its development of security robots, currently being deployed on corporate campuses in Silicon Valley.
Carbon Motors' police cars were designed to protect, but the company was not protected from going bankrupt.
Befesa inaugurates its new smelting plant in Saxony-Anhalt

Amazon The multinational technology group Befesa has opened its new smelting plant for making aluminium alloys in the industrial area of Bernburg, in Saxony-Anhalt. The company is investing approximately $25 million at the site and is creating about 60 new jobs.

The metalworking industry has a long history in Saxony-Anhalt. Attracting Befesa, headquartered in Spain, again shows that Saxony-Anhalt can offer excellent conditions when competing for investors internationally. Javier Molina Montes, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Befesa confirms this: "The new facility for recovering aluminium will be supplied to a large extent by the nearby Novelis plant. We assume that the new production site in Bernburg will be one of the most productive sites in the industry."

Investors in Saxony-Anhalt benefit from its location in the center of Europe, its state-of-the-art infrastructure, highly skilled and motivated workforce, excellent investment incentives and very competitive cost structure. Saxony-Anhalt offers an outstanding research landscape and a culture of innovation.
