Saxony-Anhalt's Life Science industry is a global innovator in medical care

Saxony-Anhalt The life science industry in the German federal state of Saxony-Anhalt is one of Europe's most dynamic and research-intensive industries with international standing. It is focusing initially on the particular challenges of demographic change. The objective of research activities now underway is to establish Saxony-Anhalt as a model region for independent living in old age.

About 125 companies in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical technology are researching solutions for lifestyle, environmental and age-related diseases. With more than 92,000 employees, about 12% of Saxony-Anhalt's workforce is employed in the healthcare sector.

Healthcare innovations "Made in Saxony-Anhalt" are in demand worldwide. Companies like Primed Halberstadt GmbH, a manufacturer of wound drainage, clinical diagnostics and tracheotomy products, and SONOTEC Ultraschallsensorik Halle GmbH, which develops ultrasonic sensors, have successfully founded subsidiaries in the USA, for example.

Flagship research projects with international appeal are further proof of Saxony-Anhalt's high research quality in the medical care field. The medical engineering research campus STIMULATE at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, for example, is developing innovative, image-guided, minimally invasive surgical techniques. Cooperation partners include global players such as Siemens and Bayer Health Care. STIMULATE aims at establishing the "German Center for Image-Guided Therapies" as an international reference center in the next few years.

Investors in Saxony-Anhalt not only benefit from its highly skilled and motivated workforce and its outstanding research landscape and culture of innovation, but also from its location in the center of Europe and very competitive cost structure.
