Great Lakes States
Maintain Economic Expansion

by FREDERICK BURGER

Corporate America continues

to find the eight-state region

a hot spot for investment due

to its pro-business environment.

When you look at the economic activity of the eight states that border the Great Lakes, there's only one question: How can they maintain the stunning pace of growth they have enjoyed in recent years?

Indeed, of those eight states, six -- Michigan, Ohio, New York, Illinois, Minnesota and Pennsylvania -- ranked in Site Selection's Top 10 in attracting new and expanding industry in 1999. Michigan led them all and captured SS's coveted Governor's Cup for the third straight year.

That leaves Indiana and Wisconsin, both of which are enjoying a similar measure of success as their Great Lakes neighbors as the national economy remains robust.
