Wyoming Pushes for Technology Investments

In his state-of-the-state address, Gov. Jim Geringer urged legislators to improve statewide investment in technology to transform Wyoming's economy. Gov. Geringer's new stimulus package includes funds for a technology incubator to be located at the University of Wyoming.
High-tech tool manufacturer Grobet USA has moved its headquarters from Carlstadt, N.J. to a 40,000-sq. ft. (3,716-sq. m.) manufacturing facility in Cheyenne. The firm manufactures precision instruments, equipment and supplies and will employ 40 full-time workers. "We selected Cheyenne, because it provides Grobet with the business climate, expertise and surroundings that are conducive to our strategic growth," says John Canzoneri, president of Grobet USA.
Cheyenne is also home of Lowe's Companies' newest regional distribution center. The $60 million facility will employ more than 450 people and will ship supplies and goods to Lowe's stores throughout the Central and Western United States. The 1.1-million- sq.-ft. (102,200-sq.-m.) facility is expected to open this year. Company officials cite the Cheyenne area's high work ethic and excellent highway access as key factors in the location decision. Area officials expect additional spin-off investments from the Lowe's center. "Once Lowe's locates in an area, other companies tend to follow," says Jack Crews, president of the Cheyenne-Laramie County Corporation for Economic Development.
