 PROJECT WATCH

Hungary

According to an August bulletin from the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency, Continest Technologies has opened a factory producing foldable containers in Székesfehérvár. These are not cardboard boxes, but modular buildings of the type that can be used at events (such as the 2019 World Alpine Skiing Championships) or by military or medical operations. After launching in 2019, the firm realized nearly €2.3 million in sales in 2020, and anticipates the new factory’s headcount of 40 will increase over the next three years. Székesfehérvár, an important rail and road hub in central Hungary, was founded by Grand Prince Géza in 972 and during the reign of Stephen I became a royal and cultural center. “The National Memorial Site comprises of the remains of the one-time coronation basilica built by Saint Stephen the King — Our Blessed Lady Basilica,” says the city’s tourism site, noting that 36 Hungarian kings have been crowned between its walls.

This spinout of Baton Rouge–based IT firm General Informatics makes software and processes to modernize and streamline work performed by public safety, criminal justice and first responder personnel. According to the company, the 365Labs team “engineered and built the first PetaByte-scale private cloud in the region, brought together a high-performing executive team through three successful acquisitions, and in 2020 successfully partnered with Rosewood Capital to recapitalize to start regional expansion.” General Informatics, born in Baton Rouge in 2001 and now with locations across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, says the Rosewood investment will enable a next phase of growth that “includes entering other markets within Alabama, as well as Texas, Mississippi, and the Florida panhandle.”

 SITE SELECTION RECOMMENDS

For the Remote Work feature posted above, we tried to offer samples of the best current business intelligence on the topic. But we couldn’t fit everything. One example: HigherVisibility.com’s Best Places to Remote Work in America. The organization examined eight factors such as average broadband speed, number of green spaces, average house rent and house prices and number of coffee shops to devise these rankings of the Top 20 for cities under 1 million in population, and the Top 10 for cities with more than 1 million.
