Innovation is critical to our future — whether it be our planet, our governments, our companies or our lives. This issue of Site Selection is rich with features covering such subject matter as the annual Governor's Cup, Top Metros and Micropolitans, my own life sciences industry and airport cities.
One of the common traits of leading states, metros, companies and even airports is their leveraging of innovation and use of technology. I am certainly looking forward to reading this issue of the magazine, as I know it is filled with great stories of how states and municipalities have been successful in attracting and retaining businesses in their jurisdictions.
I recently traveled to visit several Johnson & Johnson sites and businesses in California — one of several states spotlighted in this issue, and notable for its software, technology and science leadership.
I was fascinated by the many advances in medical innovation and technology as I visited and met people so proud of their efforts and how these innovations have the potential to transform treatments for human health. This inspired me to think about how my own internal organization at J&J can help to enable the success of these businesses through innovation in real estate and facilities management to enhance the workplace environment.
From California, I journeyed on to Atlanta for our IAMC January board meeting. It was a great meeting with lots of new ideas exchanged and discussed to make IAMC an even stronger and more valuable association to all our members. IAMC has identified five key pillars for our strategic vision known as IAMC 2020. Guess what? One of these pillars is technology. So even IAMC is embracing the need to innovate and change.
I hope you will enjoy reading the many articles in this issue. As you do, think about how innovation and technology are transforming your jobs, our lives, our communities and our nation.
