Citing news broken by French-language publication Businews.fr, Data Center Dynamics reported earlier this month that Digital Realty Trust will construct its fifth data center in Marseille, France, at a site formerly occupied by a sugar silo located at Marseille-Fos Port. Grand Port Maritime de Marseille in December 2021 had called for expressions of interest in the redevelopment of the silo site, which has been closed since 2015. Another publication, Gomet, said the company would be investing €260 million (nearly US$280 million) into the project. It’s not the only project in France from Digital Realty: The company is investing in a third Paris-region campus in the city of Les Ulis that will eventually encompass two buildings totaling 54,000 sq. m. (581,250 sq. ft.) with the ability to expand from 20 MW by the end of 2023 to as much as 80MW of capacity. Digital Realty operates more than 300 facilities in more than 50 metros in 28 countries.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports that Swedish mining and infrastructure equipment and services company Epiroc is moving its service center in Elko into a new 48,000-sq.-ft. National Competency Center. “The Competency Center in Elko, which is under construction today, is the key milestone in achieving the vision and delivering on the strategies we have set for 2023 in Nevada,” James Halladay, Competency Center manager, told the paper. “Not only will these operations provide a high level of service to customers in the region — these locations are critical to our future growth and success in the U.S. market.” Based in Stockholm, Epiroc’s U.S. headquarters is in Broomfield, Colorado. Epirock and Fordia Powered by Epiroc, a manufacturer of exploration drilling tools for mineral exploration, originally introduced an Exploration Competency Center in Elko in May 2021. “With the company’s focus on surface and underground mining equipment, its largest facility in the United States is in Elko,” reported the Daily Free Press. “The new Competency Center will approximately double the size of Epiroc’s current Elko facilities.”

As announced by the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) last week, Dana Incorporated, which first established a foothold in Hungary in 2005, is launching two projects to expand its operation in Győr to meet growing demand for EVs. “The investments will create nearly 300 jobs for highly skilled workers, some of whom can also benefit from an ambitious training program” in electrification technology, the agency said. Dana’s Hungarian operations currently employ 1,300 people at four facilities in Gyor. One of the two new project will expand the existing operation to produce power electronics coolers and other thermal-management technologies by using fully automated production lines. The other project will add production of high-voltage motors and electric drive units (EDUs) to an existing production plant. Dana has operations in 31 countries.
