List of Real Estate Industry's Missing Grows
By JACK LYNESite Selection Executive Editor of Interactive Publishing

New York skyline before Sept. 11, 2001 October 1, 2001 -- The list of the real estate industry's missing continues to grow. To date, we have learned of at least five people who worked in the industry and are currently missing in New York.
As of this writing, 5,219 victims are missing at the World Trade Center attack site. That marks a reduction of more than 400 victims from the previously released total. Unfortunately, however, the lower number is not because more survivors have been found. Those some 400 removed names are a result of cross checking that eliminated duplications. To date, 314 bodies have been recovered, with 255 identified, according to officials at the WTC site.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey architect Frank De Martini evacuated from the 88th floor
of the WTC's north tower (left in photo above). But he returned to try to save others inside.

Among those added to the industry's missing list is Frank De Martini, an architect who is one of 72 missing Port Authority of New York and New Jersey employees. De Martini worked in an office on the north tower's 88th floor. He died a hero. De Martini helped organize the staff evacuation. He actually exited the building with his wife, Nicole, also an architect, who was visiting him that day. De Martini, however, returned to the building to try and help others escape. The last reports of his whereabouts reported him on the north tower's 78th floor.
Construction firm Washington Group International has apparently been hit very hard. The company had an office on the south tower's 91st floor. Thirteen Washington Group International employees who were working there are now listed as missing.
G.M.P. Inc. is also among the industry companies listing missing employees. G.M.P.'s Rocco Medaglia is a construction supervisor who was finishing a renovation in the World Trade Center. Medaglia is listed as missing.
The New York area's trade unions also have a number of missing members, including painters, carpenters, electrical workers and laborers, according to union officials. Total numbers of the missing in those trades are not yet known.
The three Julien J. Studley employees previously reported as missing remain on that list.
Two of the missing employees - James Gartenberg and Patricia Puma - were among the group of eight brokers and four support staff that were housed in the North Tower's 86th floor. The nine other Studley employees who worked at 1 World Trade Center evacuated safely, the company reported.
The other missing Studley employee is Jan Maciejewski, an information technology consultant who was working in the company's office in Midtown New York.

Construction Teams at Pentagon Escape

All members of the International Development Research Council (IDRC) who worked in the WTC area apparently evacuated safely, IDRC officials continue to report.
SiteNet Dispatch has also learned that all Hansel Phelps and Singleton Electric workers who were working at the Pentagon on Sept. 11 escaped unhurt.
Below is the list of the surviving and the missing at far as can be ascertained. In some cases, we do not have a complete list of those missing or safe and have listed only companies. In those cases, we've only listed individuals for certain companies whose condition has been reported to us.
We will continue to update these lists weekly as long as we're aware that some in the industry haven't been accounted for. We urge readers to contact us with any information on the well being of industry professionals who worked in the WTC area and for whom we don't yet have information.
