India Emerges as Hot Spot Many companies looking to save money on labor costs while retaining a highly educated work force have found India a perfect spot for customer contact centers. "In India, you can get a call center employee for New Economy support centers for around $3,000 a year," says White. "We just did a pretty in-depth report on India, and it is definitely one of the cutting-edge locations in the world right now."GE Capital International, for example, is employing more than 1,000 people in its call center in Gurgaon, near New Delhi. "Domestic companies are becoming more consumer focused now," Ritesh Srivsatava, international marketing manager with PARESEC Technologies, a call center software provider, told the Call Center News Service (www.callcenternews.com). "For example, Whirlpool, the global white goods manufacturer, is setting up five call centers, and Kotak Mahindra, which is India's largest financial services company, is also setting up five call centers."
