State Partnerships
Heighten Appeal Though these programs are helpful in attracting business, many small towns say that it's the partnership between local economic development groups and the state that make their markets irresistible to corporate investors. "The majority of the packages assembled by local communities is in partnership with our friends at the state of Ohio," says Doug Born, executive vice president with the Community Development Foundation (Findlay). "Having good friends and partners at the state is key to Ohio's communities." In Bowling Green, Ky., Afni Chairman and CEO Bruce F. Griffin noted the state-local partnership as key to its decision to locate a 260-seat inbound call center in the area. "We studied locations throughout the country, looking for the most feasible location for our new call center facility," he said at the facility announcement. "The quality of employees that we seek to hire at Afni is readily found in the Bowling Green community. Also, the tremendous cooperation we received from the local and state officials make this an excellent choice for Afni to continue its strategic growth."
