Philadelphia will be the home of one of three new biotech life science greenhouses proposed by former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge. The Greenhouse initiatives will foster research in the life science industries throughout the Keystone State.


B
y nurturing emerging clusters in such nascent industries as life sciences, nanotechnology and photonics, economic development officials in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey hope to reinvigorate capital investment and stimulate job growth for years to come. While industries for years have located facilities in regions in these states known for certain sectors -- pharmaceutical companies in north central New Jersey, for instance -- states know that being associated with the high-tech industries of tomorrow is critical to their future as a business location.
