Security Specialist Picks Michigan

Michigan is hoping the decision by Veridian to build a new research and development facility in Ypsilanti Township will help create a homeland security industry corridor. Veridian, a provider of information-based systems for the Central Intelligence Agency, Department of Defense and National Security Agency, chose Ypsilanti over sites in Ohio and Virginia, and plans to create 245 jobs at the facility.
Automotive companies remain the industrial kingpin in Michigan, and the state has successfully deployed its Single Business Tax credit to land several new projects.
Plastech Engineered Products, one of Michigan's largest Tier 1 automotive suppliers, plans to invest $110 million to build 702,000 sq. ft. (65,215 sq. m.) of new manufacturing capacity for its blow molding and injection molding operations in French Township. Plastech will receive a Single Business Tax Credit of $9.9 million over a 13-year period.
Grupo Antolin Michigan will take over the former Lear facility in Marlette to fabricate interior trim components and systems for the automotive industry. Grupo Antolin chose Michigan rather than expand an existing facility in Mexico after receiving an incentive package including a Single Business Tax Credit of $2.1 million over 10 years.
Denso Manufacturing, a manufacturer of advanced automotive heating and cooling systems, is investing $45 million to add 90,000 square feet (8,361 sq. m.) and 300 jobs to the company's facility in Battle Creek.
American Mitsuba Corp. will invest more than $10 million in a testing and research center in Brighton. The company, which designs and tests automobile motor assemblies, windshield wiper systems, power window regulator motors, starters and cooling fans, expects to create 85 jobs.
Ontario-based Automodular Corp.'s Tech-Mar Division has opened a new 210,000-sq.-ft. (19,509-sq.-m.) plant to provide sequencing and sub-assembly services to GM's Lansing Grand River assembly plant, which produces the Cadillac CTS and SRX vehicles.
