The biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector is also thriving in Québec.
Among the ongoing projects is DSM Biologics' plant, which is under construction in Montréal and set to open in 2005. The Dutch firm is investing $460 million in the facility that will produce monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. Tennessee-based DiaTech Oncology has opened tumor drug sensitivity testing facilities in the metro Montréal area. Ongoing clinical trials made the region attractive, according to DiaTech officials. Germany-based Felix Schoeller Holding will invest $67 million to upgrade its Technocell subsidiary in Drummondville. Capacity will double at the plant, which produces photographic and decorative paper.
