If Lay’s potato chips aren’t your favorite, then chances are Doritos might be. PepsiCo India is taking no chances, as it announced last Friday this expansion at its largest greenfield food manufacturing plant that just opened last September to produce Lay’s. Part of the expansion at the facility located on 29 acres in Kosi Kalan, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh will be a line to make the Doritos nacho chip brand. The announcement was the third to take place at an investor summit in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The progressive ecosystem and industrial climate in Uttar Pradesh has yielded some fantastic opportunities for PepsiCo India,” said Ahmed ElSheikh, president, PepsiCo India. “Thanks to the industry-friendly policies and ease of doing business in the state, we achieved a major milestone of setting up our greenfield foods plant in Kosi in less than two years. The state-of-the-art facility is fueling the economic ecosystem and creating job opportunities in UP.”

Belgium

Chips are one thing. Chocolate is another. On the final day of May, Cargill officially opened its House of Chocolate in Mouscron, located just across the border in the greater metro area of Lille, France. The complex, built adjacent to Cargill’s chocolate production plant, includes a “chocolate experience center” a small-batch pilot plant and creative workspace for the company’s European R&D team of 40 chocolate engineers. “At the House of Chocolate, customers can collaborate with our experts and leverage our resources to create products inspired by the latest trends,” said Inge Demeyere, managing director for Cargill Chocolate Europe. “It is a place designed to bring ideas to life and quickly move them to the market.” The company said Belgium has been a focal point of Cargill’s global chocolate business for many years due to its unique position in the chocolate world globally and the strong reputation of Belgian chocolate. Cargill’s Cocoa & Chocolate business has operated in the country since 2002. If you’re thinking of taking a Willy Wonka-style tour of the new site, however, you will be disappointed: “Please note that House of Chocolate is exclusively for registered food professionals and is not open to the public,” says the facility’s website.

Today marks the 78th anniversary of D-Day. The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France is located in Colleville-sur-Mer, on the site of the temporary American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the U.S. First Army on June 8, 1944, as the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II. Located at the gateway to the D-Day beaches, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy operated by Bayeux Museums presents all of the military operations that took place on Norman soil over the summer months of 1944.
