IAMC PEOPLE AND PROJECTS
Toronto-based JJ Barnicke has inked a cross-border partnership agreement with Dallas-based Trammell Crow Co. The deal comes in the wake of the CB Richard Ellis takeover of Insignia/ ESG, Barnicke's former partner. Kevin Beaudry, vice president of industrial and commercial services for JJ Barnicke, is an IAMC member.
Connecticut-based control systems manufacturer Edwards Systems Technology has employed Duke Construction's Lake Mary, Fla., operation in the building of a new $15-million, 110,000-sq.-ft. (10,219-sq.-m.) facility in Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota, Fla. that will initially employ some 170 people. Besides product R&D, the complex will house the company's training operation, the EST Institute. A unit of $5-billion company SPX, EST engineers and manufactures leading-edge control systems and components for fire alarm, security, access control and communications for the industrial, commercial and institutional sectors.
Rick Leighton, who spent 32 years with Lehigh Valley, Pa.-based Air Products and Chemicals, culminating in a position as director of real estate, has taken a position with the NAI Corporate Services Group in New Jersey. Four different NAI affiliates are members of IAMC: Andrew Georgelakos, executive vice president for NAI KLNB in McLean, Va.; George Livingston, president of NAI Realvest Partners in Maitland, Fla.; Edward Saig, president of NAI Saig Co. in Memphis, Tenn.; and Becky Craft, senior director for NAI Stoneleigh in Dallas, Texas. Even as the hostile takeover attempt by Oracle Corp. continues to play out, PeopleSoft is experiencing merger pains already in the wake of its own $1.8-billion acquisition of J.D. Edwards & Co. Despite efforts to preserve as many jobs as possible, the target head count for the company in 2004 is 11,700, down from a combined payroll of 12,500 at the close of the deal. Between the deal's announcement and its closing, projections of possible cost savings in 2004 doubled from $80 million to between $150 million and $200 million. In the year previous to the acquisition, PeopleSoft cut costs by some $180 million. John Lucas, vice president of real estate for PeopleSoft, is an IAMC member. Dallas-based Mohr Partners has welcomed Tom Wenkstern as managing partner and chief marketing officer. He previously served as senior managing director for Insignia/ ESG's corporate services group. Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Dina Boscardin, managing partner for Mohr, is an IAMC member.
In October 2003, Paul Anderson, 58, returned to Charlotte, N.C.-based Duke Energy after a five-year absence to take the post of chairman and CEO. The company owns utilities in both Carolinas, merchant plants and natural gas pipelines. Richard Wiley, director of economic development for Duke Power in Greensboro, is an IAMC associate member. DuPont subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International has contributed $150,000 to Iowa State University's (ISU) Seed Science Center. The money will help to fund an endowment for graduate students in ISU's College of Agriculture. Mark Miller, director of corporate services for Pioneer Hi-Bred, is an IAMC member. Site selection consulting firm McCallum Sweeney has welcomed on board Kimberly L. Williams as a consultant. Ed McCallum is an IAMC associate member.
