Louisiana Project Watch
- Plastipak
Packaging is completing construction of a 500,000-sq.-ft.
(46,450-sq.-m.) facility in Pineville that will supply Procter
& Gamble's Fabric and Home Care Division with containers
for such detergent brands as Tide and Cheer. The $45-million
facility, on a 62-acre (25-hectare) site, will generate
more than 100 new jobs.
- Dow Chemical's
UCAR Emulsion Systems business unit is building a new production
plant at the company's Union Carbide site in St. Charles
and is expanding operations in Illinois and Ontario. Overall,
the unit is investing more than $100 million on the combined
expansions, with the St. Charles project being the most
significant. Facilities in Georgia and Texas are slated
for closure by 2006.
- ExxonMobil
Chemical has commenced operations at its new commercial
metallocene ethylene elastomer manufacturing facility in
Baton Rouge, which will add capacity of more than 90,000
tons of product annually.
- Abita Springs
Water Co. is constructing a new, 112,000-sq.-ft. (10,400-sq.-m.)
bottling and distribution facility in St. Tammany Parish.
The facility will use a 1,000-ft. (304-m.) artesian well
to access water directly from the Abita Aquifer.
- A $20-million
food-processing plant, which is estimated to have a regional
economic impact of $10 million, is under development for
the Peter Stormquist Companies in Bogalusa. More than 200
jobs will be created in the first year of operation.
