Paint and stain manufacturer Behr Process Corp., a subsidiary of IAMC member company Masco Corp., is building a 400,000-sq.-ft. (37,160-sq.-m.), 125-worker plant on 22.5 acres (nine hectares) at Hillwood's AllianceTexas development in Roanoke, Texas. The Santa Ana, Calif.-based subsidiary, in business since 1947, will join the more than 125 companies that have built 23.7 million sq. ft. (2.2 million sq. m.) and created 20,000 jobs at the 15,000-acre (6,071-hectare) AllianceTexas spread. The Behr plant will be up and running by summer 2005, and will receive incentives from both the City of Roanoke and Denton County. David Hirsch, director of real estate, construction and property management for Taylor, Mich.-based Masco Corp., serves on the IAMC Board of Directors.

Recovery and Discovery
For Federal-Mogul

On March 5, 2004, Federal-Mogul's 244,000-sq.-ft. (22,668-sq.-m.) Smithville, Tenn., aftermarket distribution center suffered a major fire that resulted in the loss of substantially all of the facility's equipment and inventory. Insurance policies were expected to cover the losses. Operations were only down for one week, as the DC -- the primary distribution point for the company's Moog and TRW chassis products -- shifted operations to a location in Smyrna, Tenn., home of a Nissan plant.
Federal-Mogul's aftermarket division made different facility news in late 2003, when it opened a Technical Training Institute (TTI) and three satellite learning facilities at manufacturing locations in Germany for its employees and customers. The Southfield, Mich.-based company operates three other TTIs, in St. Louis, Mo., Mexico City, Mexico, and City West, South Africa.
Pending the appointment of a new CEO, Robert S. (Steve) Miller, Jr., was appointed interim CEO of the company in late July 2004. A longtime Federal-Mogul board member, Miller most recently served as chairman and CEO of Bethlehem Steel. He serves on the boards of several corporations, including IAMC member organization Waste Management.
Edward O'Neill, director of global real estate for Federal-Mogul, is an IAMC member.

Member Organizations Team Up on Megasites

Tennessee Valley Authority is in the midst of creating a certification program for large industrial "megasites" of 700 to 1,000 acres (283 to 405 hectares) within its territory. To find a partner consultant for the project, TVA issued a request for information to more than 200 consultants and negotiated with the top 13 consultants capable of providing site evaluation services before selecting fellow IAMC member firm McCallum Sweeney.
"The industrial megasites certification program will help attract more jobs and improve the quality of life for the people in the region," said IAMC member and TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley. Ed McCallum, senior principal of McCallum Sweeney, is also an IAMC member. TVA has also established www.TVA.com, a GIS site that allows users to search throughout TVA's 80,000-sq.-m. (207,200-sq.-km.), seven-state territory
