in India officially removed the Anglicized names of seven cities on Nov. 1. Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli, Shimoga, Belgaum and Hospet are now Bengalooru, Mysooru, Mangalooru, Shivamogga, Belagaavi and Hosapete.
Bangalore is the best known of these cities and often associated with offshoring of U.S. high- tech firms. Technology and back- office facilities employ an estimated 300,000 in the city. U.S. firms with operations there include IBM, Dell and Oracle.
"Bengalooru" is a derivative of "Bendakalooru," meaning a "town of boiled beans."
Alcatel's Antwerp Center Opens

aris- based Alcatel, a global provider of high- tech equipment for telecommunications networks, recently opened an IP Transformation Center in Antwerp, Belgium. The first center of its scale in Europe, the IPTC will develop, integrate and test end- to- end Internet protocol networking systems for customers in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Latin America.
The Antwerp IPTC is located in Alcatel's new facility for its Belgian operations. The IPTC is large enough to simultaneously host more than 10 large- scale projects.
Alcatel's IP Transformation Center in Antwerp, Belgium, will bring together experts from across the world to design, test and build pre- integrated customer- specific products.
