FDI Awards Presented at the World Forum for Foreign Direct InvestmentSHANGHAI, November 13, 2013: Site Selection Magazine and the FDI Association presented their first annual Foreign Direct Investment Awards today at the World Forum for Foreign Direct Investment at Le Royal Meridien Hotel in Shanghai, China. These awards recognize excellence in five categories of foreign direct investment activity: FDI Deal of the Year, Investment Promotion Agency of the Year, FDI Destination of the Future, Most Innovative FDI-Attraction Incentive Program of the Year and FDI Politician of the Year. Nominations from around the world were accepted and evaluated during the fall by a panel of distinguished global site consultants and the editors of Site Selection magazine, published by Conway Data Inc., parent company of Red Hot Locations, which organized the World Forum. Presenting the awards were three members of that panel: Andreas Dressler, managing director of Berlin-based Terrain Consulting (also a division of Conway Data Inc.); Jason Hickey, president of Hickey & Associates; and Matthijs Weeink, president, APAC, of Amsterdam-based Investment Consulting Associates. FDI Award winners are as follows: FDI Deal of the Year Investment Promotion Agency of the Year FDI Destination of the Future Most Innovative FDI-Attraction Incentive Program of the Year FDI Politician of the Year “Investment promotion agencies and political leaders recognized by these awards signify best practices in the world of foreign direct investment,” says Mark Arend, editor in chief of Site Selection. “Areas compete aggressively for projects like those recognized in the FDI Deals of the Year category, and investment promotion agencies and political leaders must demonstrate to capital investors that they can exceed expectations where cross-border facilities investment is concerned. These award recipients have done that, and we congratulate them on their success.” “There are lots of agencies out there that work hard and achieve great things, often on very limited budgets,” says Camilla Sharp, vice president, Red Hot Locations. “When a company makes a big investment, the headlines always talk about the company and the capital invested or the jobs created. If an IPA or economic development agency has played a part, its role is discreet, unsung even. I think that the recognition of their professionalism and creativity with these awards might help them to feel that their long hours and relative invisibility are worthwhile and I would hope that they would also encourage others to strive towards their standards” Site Selection magazine, published by Conway Data Inc., delivers expansion planning information to 49,000 executives of fast-growing firms.
