S
uch northeast powerhouse states as New York and New Jersey are slugging it out along their border for the lion's share of expansion and relocation. But the region as a whole, from Maine to the Mason-Dixon Line, is enjoying a business boom that can only result from the longest period of economic growth on record. The intense, intra-regional competition is good news for companies already located in the Northeast, and for those that have wanted to expand into the region but considered such a move to be too expensive.
     Real estate and other business costs remain high, especially in the major metro areas of Boston, New York and Philadelphia. Many of those costs are offset by ambitious incentive programs and pro-business economic development agendas.
     Following is a state-by-state roundup of what's happening in the region of note to corporate site seekers. Some of the states discussed here will be featured in more detail in upcoming issues of Site Selection.
