N.Y. Garners Variety of Wilson Greatbatch Technologies, a major manufacturer of batteries used in implantable medical devices, plans to expand into Amherst and create 150 new jobs over the next three years. The company is buying an existing 81,000 -sq.-ft. (7,500-sq.-m.) building. Fujifilm USA, the U.S. marketing subsidiary of Tokyo-based Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd., moved from one city to another in Westchester County when it moved from Elmsford to a larger building in Valhalla. The company will create 252 new jobs as a result. The new site's total work force will grow to 677 over the next five years. Italian manufacturer Salami Hydraulics is building its first U.S. plant in Greene. The $4-million facility will provide 100 jobs. The company chose the site to be closer to customers in the U.S. and Canada. Mattress maker Sealy is investing more than $25 million to expand its regional facility in Albany County's Empire Zone. The expansion will retain 198 jobs and create 260 new ones within one year of company occupancy. Albany County won out over possible sites in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Sealy has outgrown its current Albany-area facility and will move its operations to a 307,000-sq.-ft. (28,500-sq.-m.) building in Green Island. |
