I
t’s that time of year again when Site Selection focuses on the annual Governor’s Cup award, and there is certainly much to celebrate. I also acknowledge and congratulate the numerous states, counties, municipalities and individual communities because there is little doubt that they can, and do, play significant roles in attracting business and fostering economic growth.
There is also much that goes on behind the scenes that ultimately leads to such positive results for successful companies and communities. We would be remiss in not acknowledging and recognizing the lesser publicized value-added contributions of those working tirelessly to bring about these ultimate successes.
As members of IAMC, corporate real estate executives work as the catalyst for bringing about and implementing what corporate America celebrates when it comes to growth, efficiency and effectiveness of its business operations. In most instances, this also extends to how the company is viewed within the community by its leaders and residents. Managing and directing all of this to achieve the desired outcome is precisely the role of the corporate real estate executive.
Developing these necessary qualities is the focus of all IAMC programs and initiatives. To stay ahead of the curve and continue to add high value and direction for our companies is critical, and requires continuous improvement in terms of both skills and knowledge base.
This is precisely the role and mission of IAMC, and part of its success. I believe the most important factor – one openly shared by IAMC’s leadership, staff and individual members – is the combined commitment to raise professional and personal effectiveness of all members as well as the corporate real estate profession as a whole. That is what we ultimately believe adds value.
So, as we celebrate the Governor’s Cup, I also challenge each of us to set high individual goals. Doing so will result in generating more successes for all concerned. Celebrate the sense of value and pride that we each bring to the table. It may be obvious to us that our companies recognize the contribution made by the corporate real estate expertise internally, but we should never lose sight of the impact we ultimately have on the communities in which we operate: In many instances, the corporate real estate executive is the focal point and face of the company.
That is both an honor and obligation. We must never lose sight of the fact that this is also a relationship and partnership between private and public; business and government; and ultimately between employees and residents. If we continue with this recognition, set high goals, and pursue them with vigor and professionalism, there will be little to stand in the way of personal and professional success.
