SITE SELECTION RECOMMENDS

CBRE’s new study of metro-area sustainability identifies 10 North American cities that are best positioned to withstand the impact on property values from both the energy transition and physical climate risk. That Top 10 has four cities in common with the 10 regions in Site Selection’s 2023 Sustainability Rankings, beginning with our No. 1: Austin, Texas. The metro areas of Denver, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., are also on both lists.

Meanwhile, Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace: 2023 Report says 23% of the world’s employees, driven largely by South Asia, were engaged or thriving at work in 2022, the highest level since Gallup began measuring global engagement in 2009. But that means 77% of employees are either quiet quitting or actively disengaged.

PHOTO OF THE DAY

“My family and I had a wonderful few days exploring the steep streets and characteristic alleyways of Porto,” writes Site Selection Regional Sales Manager for Europe Brendan Doherty, who notes that summer tourism levels in Europe appear to be approaching pre-pandemic levels. “Despite the continuing increase in tourism, Porto has managed to hold on to its charm and authenticity,” he says of the picturesque Portuguese city at the mouth of the Douro River. “Tourist numbers have been growing at a rate of double digits and it’s easy to see why. The food and of course the world-famous port alone are worth the visit.” The city’s historic center was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
