Recent project announcements include the expansions of Liberty Hardware and Ken Garner Manufacturing. Liberty Hardware is leasing 526,000 square feet of distribution space at Union Cross Business Park, adding to their 690,000-square-foot distribution center and company headquarters in the park. The project is valued at approximately $22 million.
Ken Garner Manufacturing is a leading manufacturer of counterweights for excavators and heavy construction machinery. The Chattanooga-based company located its expansion facility in Rural Hall in northern Forsyth County and will create over 70 new jobs and invest $2 million in the plant.
Winston-Salem is one of seven international finalists for the 2008 Intelligent Community of the Year as determined by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF). Other finalists include Westchester, N.Y.; Northeast Ohio; Dundee, Scotland; New Brunswick, Canada; Seoul, S. Korea; and Tallinn, Estonia.
The winner will be announced in New York City in May. The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) is a nonprofit think tank that focuses on job creation and economic development in the broadband economy.
