On July 1 the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced plans to move its headquarters to the Ronald Reagan Building complex, a site that is home to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and other agencies and which used to be home to USAID. “This move not only provides a world-class location for the FBI’s public servants, but it also saves Americans billions of dollars on new construction and avoids more than $300 million in deferred maintenance costs at the J. Edgar Hoover facility,” said GSA Public Buildings Service Commissioner Michael Peters.
For years, the agency was thought to be headed to Maryland, a topic first broached in Site Selection in this May 2013 Investment Profile of Prince George’s County, which in November 2023 announced the HQ was indeed coming to Greenbelt. The GSA announced it too. Meanwhile, a group of Maryland elected officials and organizations called “Team Maryland” has released a statement saying of the new GSA plan “we will be fighting back
