At an event Monday in the tri-state Siouxland area celebrating the region’s return to No. 1 in Site Selection’s Tier-3 Top Metros rankings, Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen referenced his meetings with tribal leaders who referred to putting things in the perspective of lasting seven generations.
If the phrase rings a bell, it appeared in Site Selection’s May 2023 feature on tribal economic development entitled “Coming Full Circle,” where a candid interview with tribal member and Ho-Chunk Inc. President and CEO Lance Morgan, himself from that very region, was prefaced with this passage: “Lakota holy man Black Elk and other 19th century tribal leaders prophesied it would take seven generations to repair the ‘broken circle’ and heal the multiple, layered traumas inflicted on Native American peoples.”
That time is nigh, and opportunities are too. Look for a new chapter in the multifaceted story of tribal economic development in the May 2026 issue of Site Selection.

Plastics Industry Association Chief Economist Dr. Perc Pineda this week released a new economic analysis examining how shifts in U.S. trade and tariff policy are shaping the plastics sector’s economic footprint. “The analysis highlights the industry’s $550.1 billion in shipments, more than 1.7 million American jobs supported and over $78 billion in exports, with a state-by-state breakdown of employment and export activity,” says a release from the association.

While crossing the DuSable Bridge, a bascule bridge that conveys Michigan Avenue traffic over the Chicago River, Editor in Chief Adam Bruns made this photo yesterday on Chicago’s 189th birthday. It marks the date Chicago was officially incorporated as a city in 1837.
The date this year came two days after Casimir Pulaski Day, an official holiday in Illinois celebrated on the first Monday in March every year in honor of the Revolutionary War hero and to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the Polish-American community to the state’s history.
