Word in Greater Atlanta that the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved a $45 million investment in eight new hangars at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) put us in mind of when our founder McKinley “Mac” Conway and his daughter Laura (our current publisher and director) flew their aircraft out of that facility, not far from where Site Selection and Conway Data used to have our offices.
It also put us in mind of Site Selection summer intern Evan Secor, a senior at Marist School, who during his time with us last summer interviewed leaders, researched context and documented similar expansion at Fulton County Executive Airport in Area Airport Ramps Up for the World Cup — and What Comes After.”

New posts from Asia-focused advisory firm Dezan Shira and Associates analyze which states have the most exposure to the trade war with China and which states have deepening relationships with India. According to International Trade Administration (ITA) statistics, in 2024, total trade between California and China reached $137.8 billion, with the state accounting for more than 23% of the country’s total trade with China. “The second-largest state by trade value in 2024 was Texas, with total two-way trade reaching US$58.3 billion, followed by Illinois with US$46.7 billion,” the analysis finds.
Analysis of U.S. state relationships with India shows “India’s imports from the U.S. reached US$45.6 billion in FY 2024-25, with mineral fuels dominating the basket,” the advisory firm finds. That domination could grow as Bloomberg reported last week that Indian oil refining companies Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum had signed their first long-term deal with the United States to import 2.2 million tons of LNG in 2026.
“Between April-August FY 2025-26, imports remained robust at US$21.6 billion, reflecting continued demand for energy, machinery and capital goods,” the Dezan Shira briefing states. Among the conditions encouraging further investment? Machinery and electrical equipment “collectively crossed US$7.8 billion, driven by India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes in electronics, semiconductors, aerospace and renewable energy systems.” The report finds that that the U.S. remains India’s largest export destination, “while India is now a top-10 trading partner for several American states.”

While the devastation wrought in September 2022 by Hurricane Ian lingers on Sanibel Island, Florida, area residents and businesses continue to be thankful this Thanksgiving week for the tremendous construction feat that restored the Sanibel Causeway (pictured above in October 2022 and below in May 2025). Last week the reconstruction won the Design-Build Institute of America’s (DBIA) Florida Region’s Best Overall Project of the Year award, along with the Transportation/Roadway Project of the Year award, recognizing how Florida-based contractors Superior Construction and The de Moya Group responded to one of the state’s most critical infrastructure emergencies.
“When Hurricane Ian severed the only access to Sanibel and Captiva Islands, stranding more than 6,400 residents, the joint venture formed within 24 hours,” a release from Jacksonville-based Superior Construction stated. “The team restored emergency access in just one week and completed the permanent three-mile causeway reconstruction two years ahead of FDOT’s original schedule.” When Hurricanes Debby, Helene and Milton struck the reconstruction site in 2024, completed sections withstood the impacts while unprotected areas required repairs. The reconstruction has also earned national recognition from DBIA, won the 2025 ENR Southeast Best Regional Project Award in the Highway/Bridge category and was a finalist for ENR Southeast Project of the Year.
“Florida contractors know what hurricanes can do to our communities,” said Toby Mazzoni, Area Manager at Superior Construction, which was founded in 1923. “We live and work here, so we build for the long haul, especially when our neighbors are counting on us most.”
