This hot rolling mill at the Ternium Industrial Center in Pesquería,
Nuevo León, has produced 1 million tons since it began operations in
mid-2021. The plant represents phase 2 of the Ternium Industrial
Center, alongside the galvanization and painting lines that began
operations in 2019. In total, more than $2.5 million has been
invested at the location. Known for its automotive parts industry,
Pesquería, according to DataMexico, welcomed $1.45 billion in FDI
from the U.S. between January and September last year, as well as
$278 million from Japan and $274 million from Spain. Meanwhile,
nearly half of the population in 2020 walked to work.
Reuters and other news services report that Chinese authorities have
approved construction of the joint venture plant from Audi and FAW
Group, pursuant to the companies’ January announcement of their
tie-up. Changchun already is the base for a FAW-VW JV that Audi has
been involved in for more than 30 years. Local production of the
“Premium Platform Electric” (PPE) vehicle codeveloped with Porsche
is expected to begin by 2024.
