Qatar
Scotland-based Sparrows Group, the engineering and maintenance services
specialist for the international energy and industrial sectors, on
September 21 announced global expansion to six new, purpose-built
facilities in Abu Dhabi; Kazakhstan; Doha, Qatar; Al Khobar, Saudi
Arabia; Perth, Australia; and Lake Charles, Louisiana. The projects will
create 200 new jobs overall in a company that employs 2,500 globally.
The new 5,000-sq.-m. (53,820-sq.-ft.) facility in Doha will provide
space for the maintenance and refurbishment of large components,
including drilling equipment. Sparrows expects employment at the
facility to increase by ~15% by the end of 2021. “We see enormous
potential in these locations to provide services to the energy and
industrial sectors,” said Stewart Mitchell, CEO at Sparrows, noting an
uptick in training needs as the company continues to recruit across the
Middle East. “We intend to continue to invest in both people and
equipment to accelerate our growth.”
New Jersey
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy on September 21 announced approval of
the first award under the Emerge Program, New Jersey’s new job creation
incentive program created under the New Jersey Economic Recovery Act of
2020, for a planned headquarters consolidation by Party City that will
bring 357 new jobs to a site in Woodcliff Lake and retain 338 full-time
jobs currently at risk of leaving New Jersey. The largest party goods
retailer in North America is planning to consolidate its Rockaway, New
Jersey, and Elmsford, New York, sites into one national HQ, where it
will invest more than $32 million to lease a 208,911-sq.-ft. office
building. Party City will receive a tax credit award of $9,996,000 over
seven years. According to the governor’s office, the Emerge Program
incorporates reforms that “address the shortfalls of New Jersey’s
previous tax incentive programs,” including environmental and worker
protections, and increased minimum net economic benefit requirements.

support is available at www.njeda.com/emerge.
