Press Release
Site Selection Names Global Best to Invest Locations, Awards Prosperity Cup and Mac
Conway Awards for Excellence in Economic Development

Atlanta, May 1, 2024:
Site Selection magazine has released its annual rankings of Global Best to Invest locations, which will appear in the
70-year-old publication’s May 2024 issue. The rankings employ a robust index of business
indicators including Site Selection’s own project data as well as data from UN Trade and
Development, WIPO, IMD, DHL, NYU Stern School of Business, Startup Genome, Startup Blink, OECD,
Mori Foundation, Kearney and Milken Institute to recognize the nations and metro areas with the
most economic momentum and promise across several world regions.
The United States, United Kingdom and Germany lead the way on a global basis, with Ireland, the
U.S. and Canada topping the charts on a per capita basis. Among regional winners at the country
level are Ireland, the UK and Germany in Western Europe; Israel, the UAE and Saudi Arabia in the
Africa & Middle East Region; Australia, South Korea and Singapore in the Asia Pacific Region;
Hungary, Lithuania and Poland in the Eastern European and Central Asia Region; and Mexico, Chile
and Brazil in the Latin America & Caribbean Region. Seoul, Shanghai and Sydney finished as the
top three performing metros globally.
The findings resonate with globalization data from the DHL Global Connectedness Index
(incorporated into the rankings for the first time this year) and with Kearney’s 2024 Foreign
Direct Investment (FDI) Confidence Index, released in early April, which found the United
States, Canada and China in the top three spots. Moreover, Kearney’s corporate survey
respondents found that “a striking 88% said they were planning to increase their FDI in the next
three years.” “The evidence, in other words, still supports a tendency toward optimism and
openness,” writes Site Selection Editor in Chief Adam Bruns. “Far from ‘don’t look up,’ growing
companies continue to see things looking up in more places than you might expect.”
In other rankings in the issue, Georgia has won the
Prosperity Cup, which is awarded to the most competitive state based on an index of 10
criteria, including project, capex and job creation data from Site Selection and data from the
Tax Foundation and ACT. Indiana is No. 2 in the Prosperity Cup rankings, followed by Texas at
No. 3. Rounding out the top 10 were North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky,
Illinois and Louisiana.
The Mac Conway Awards for Excellence in Economic Development, named in honor
of Site Selection founding publisher H. McKinley “Mac” Conway, are awarded to the top 20 local
and regional U.S. economic development groups based on an index of corporate job creation and
facility-related capital investment data calculated both cumulatively and per capita. (See list
below.)
Also featured in the May 2024 issue: Top Deals of the Year; the Quad Cities Intelligence Report;
tribal economic development in Oklahoma; first-hand insights into one of the world’s leading
