The research study by EMCOR Group Inc. of Norwalk, Conn., reveals a growing demand for facilities services among corporate real estate executives. According to the report, nearly half of all senior corporate and institutional executives believe that facilities management services will be integral to achieving shareholder value goals in 2004.
“Now more than ever, forward-looking businesses are seeking innovative strategies for boosting bottom-line business performance, increasing value to shareholders, improving their overall productivity and quality of operations, and better utilizing existing assets,” said Frank MacInnis, chairman and CEO of EMCOR. “This first-of-its-kind study indicates that senior executives across a spectrum of industries are looking to facilities services to help meet those critical goals.”
Conducted by Moskowitz/Jacobs Inc., a research firm based in White Plains, N.Y., the research project targeted C-suite executives and senior operational management directors across a broad range of industries in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. The 450 respondents represented the financial services, health-care, manufacturing, energy, pharmaceutical, transportation and real estate sectors.
Among other major findings of the survey:
Financial services is a leading industry for facilities services outsourcing.
Executives have high expectations and demands of a company they will allow into their businesses as a service-providing partner; 82 percent say that financial stability is an important factor in selecting a service provider.
Facilities services outsourcing is a very high area of interest, but 50 percent of executives say their facilities are not currently managed well.
Senior management is becoming more involved in facilities services outsourcing decisions, with 91 percent of respondents saying senior executives are involved in all decisions of more than $1 million in annual outsourcing fees.
Successful integration of facilities services outsourcing within an organization depends upon understanding the driving factors for each decision maker.
