Bradford West Gwillimbury, Ontario

Because of the Holland Marsh’s rich black soils, the area around Bradford West Gwillimbury produces as much as 70% of Canada’s carrots. Hence the city has hosted Carrot Fest (to be held August 18 and 19) every summer since 1998.

Currently based in Concord in the Vaughan region with distribution centers in Brampton, Ontario; Illinois and New Jersey and a U.S. head office in California, Highlight Motor Group plans to move its HQ to a new development in Bradford West Gwillimbury (BWG), located in Simcoe County just to the north of the primary Greater Toronto Area (GTA). BWG economic development notes the town’s location north of the GTA on Highway 400 with plenty of highway frontage and the recently constructed Highway 400-404 Link linking Highways 400 and 404 “further cements Bradford’s role as a hub for businesses that rely on fast and reliable shipping of goods. Newmarket Today yesterday reported the company would break ground Wednesday, August 10, on the new site. The company’s GM cited increased residential development at its former location as one reason to make the move and therefore spare residents and trucks alike the specter of further congestion. The full complex is expected to be complete in summer 2026.

Siemens and Chile-based Verano Energy announced this JV investment in a green hydrogen complex to be known as “Los Amigos de Verano” in Taltal, a Pacific Coast commune and city in the Antofagasta region that is known for its beaches and sunsets. According to one report the complex, to be completed in four phases, will produce hydrogen and ammonia and transport it via a 100-km. (62-mile) pipeline to a marine storage and distribution facility along the coast. Known for its solar energy projects throughout South America, Verano now is developing over 30 GW of hydrogen projects in Chile and Peru driven in part by the company’s U.S.-born COO Collin Hamilton. In an op-ed last fall, he wrote that once green hydrogen production is scaled up, “ammonia becomes the global renewable energy commodity, with the flexibility to be used as an energy carrier, as a fuel and as a building block for other chemicals. Just like crude oil today.” Siemens provides electrolyzer technology among other contributions. Chile aims to have “25 GW of electrolyzer capacity installed by 2030 and at least 3GW in construction in 2025,” BNamericas reports.
