Wheels Rolling on Mexico Expansion


Continental’s latest facility will cover a site equivalent to 12 soccer fields and will supply some of the company’s other Mexico plants.

Germany-based automotive parts manufacturer Continental AG has announced plans to locate its 22nd facility in Mexico. With a $90 million investment the company will construct a new hydraulic hose production plant in Mexico’s west-central state of Aguascalientes beginning this year. The nearly 915,000-sq.-ft. facility will represent Continental’s largest location in the country and will work to support the company’s existing operations throughout Mexico. Continental said the investment will help the company expand its hydraulics business into other industries like agriculture and mining. Production is slated to begin in 2025, creating 200 new jobs.

Samsung Ups Ulsan Plan

Building upon Samsung SDI’s November 2023 announcement of a new battery manufacturing plant in Ulsan, South Korea, the company recently signed a memorandum of understanding that cemented an additional $441 million toward the project. The company will now invest $750 million to construct an over 13-million-sq.-ft. battery facility. While it has not yet been disclosed what types of batteries the company plans to produce here, the plant will include facilities catering to on-site cathodes production, an essential and costly part of the battery manufacturing process.

Sunny Days Ahead in Mexico

Current business conditions in Mexico’s manufacturing sector are among the reasons Solarever Group has decided to construct a $197.9 million solar cell and panel manufacturing facility in the north-central state of Durango. The 1.2-gigawatt project represents the company’s fourth facility in the country and its largest facility to date in North America. Solarever’s new project will be located in Durango’s Parque Industrial CLID, with plans to build out a 33-acre site in phases. The company anticipates producing 160 million solar cells and 1 million photovoltaic models per year for the U.S., Colombia and Canada markets, creating 600 new jobs upon completion.
