FlightSafetyBoeing (Alteon) 'Lands'
lightSafetyBoeing Training Inter-national (FSB), renamed Alteon in mid-April 2003, has selected a site in Fulton County, Georgia, near Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, to build a $60 million aviation training facility. A wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company within the Comm-ercial Aviation Services group, FSB (Alteon) is the world's premier full-service provider of airline training. The Fulton County Economic Dev-elopment Department orchestrated a rare county/city/airport partnership that helped FSB (Alteon) decide to train thousands of pilots and crews just one interstate exit from the world's busiest passenger airport. Atlanta's quality of life, trained labor force and partnership approach by local governments were key factors in the exhaustive selection process, said John Alexander, FSB (Alteon) vice president-Americas. "This training center is yet another demonstration of FlightSafetyBoeing's (Alteon) commitment to our local airline partners," Alexander said. "This is a sizable investment that will add to our already significant presence in southeast U. S. Our intention is to place our simulators in locations convenient to our customers." AirTran and Midwest Airlines were the first to sign contracts. The 52,000-square-foot building, to be located off I-85 in College Park, will house six full-flight simulators and associated training activities to train up to 7,000 pilots annually, plus additional maintenance technicians and cabin crews. It will employ up to 50 full-time workers. Credit endorsement, infrastructure and land incentives are as follows: A $60 million aviation bond issued by the Development Authority of Fulton County, a division of the Fulton County Economic Development; Recruitment and pre-screening assistance of highly skilled employees by the Fulton County Office of Workforce Development, a division of the Fulton County Human Services Department; Infrastructure incentives by the City of College Park; and Land incentives by the City of Atlanta, which owns the property and Hartsfield. Working with Boeing and its other subsidiaries, FSB (Alteon) supports the world's aviation community with over 70 full-flight simulators in 21 locations in 10 countries on six continents. |
