U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports are setting records and policies are setting new expectations. “The Trump administration’s energy dominance push intensifies geopolitical pressures across global gas markets,” said analysis from Wood Mackenzie released at Gastech 2025 in Milan, Italy. “U.S. efforts to accelerate the complete shut-out of Russian gas and LNG from Europe create opportunities for US LNG suppliers.”
The growth and potential growth put development of liquefaction plants, terminals and production trains in a spotlight that Site Selection has trained on the LNG industry for many years. Among the most recent stories among dozens of pages of results you’ll find by writing “LNG” in the search engine at SiteSelection.com are a May 2024 report on Gulf Coast Ports entitled “How LNG Energized the South’s Industrial Base” and a July 2025 Louisiana spotlight that explains why “Billions in Foreign Investment Are Coming to the Energy Sector.”

Two in-depth and related resources were recently published by the U.S. Department of State before things shut down this week. First came the 2025 Fiscal Transparency Report, which evaluates whether 139 foreign governments (and the Palestinian Authority) that receive U.S. assistance meet minimum fiscal transparency requirements. The review concluded that 71 governments met minimum fiscal transparency requirements and 69 did not meet those requirements. Of these 69, however, 26 made significant progress toward meeting the requirements.
Last week the Department of State published the annual Investment Climate Statements for more than 170 countries and economies, “helping U.S. companies make informed decisions about doing business overseas.” The statements form chapters of the Department of Commerce’s Country Commercial Guides and address topics established by the Championing American Business Through Diplomacy Act of 2019 (CABDA), including openness to, and restrictions upon, foreign investment; investment and taxation treaties; legal regime; industrial policies; protection of property rights; corruption; and labor policies and practices. The statements “are also a resource for foreign governments to create business environments that treat the United States and our companies and investors fairly,” says the State Department.
