Closer to the equator than to either polar circle, Galveston could host a manufacturing operation for icebreaker ships.

Newzoo last week released its Global Games Market Report 2025. It predicts $188.8 billion in revenues (+3.4% year over year) for 2025 from 3.6 billion players worldwide (+4.4%). Console business is growing most rapidly at a 5.5% clip to $45.9 billion, “boosted by the Nintendo Switch 2 launch, higher software prices and a stronger release calendar,” the report stated. Expected to generate $103 billion in revenue, mobile video games are “still the biggest slice of the pie (55%), but growth is limited due to a saturated Eastern Asian market. However, the willingness to spend on mobile gaming is growing in Western regions.”
At $49.8 billion and $49.6 billion respectively, China and the U.S. will account for half of all consumer games spending this year, Newzoo says. With 1.9 billion players (53% of the world total), the Asia Pacific overall accounts for 46% of global games spending. The global market is expected to reach 3.9 billion gamers by 2028.
Site Selection’s coverage of video game development and esports includes “No Translation Necessary” in September 2021, “Esports Drive New Project Activity in the Expanding Metaverse” in January 2022 and “Gamers Have Georgia On Their Minds” in 2010.

Transwestern last week released its “Elite 11” report analyzing industrial market health across the United States. “Nearly two-thirds of the core and growth markets still posted YoY occupancy gains, construction is resetting toward balance and markets like Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Lehigh Valley are continuing to outperform,” the report finds. “Tariff uncertainty has adversely impacted key performance indicators in several of the coastal Elite 11 markets; however, activity is anticipated to reaccelerate as leases rollover and trade deals are solidified.” Transwestern’s tools include this interactive map.
