In late August Blue Run Spirits announced it will locate a new whiskey
operation in Georgetown, Kentucky, better known for making cars than
bourbon. The project will include a 35,000-sq.-ft. distillery and a
20,000-sq.-ft. rickhouse and will serve as the company’s first
vertically integrated distilling operation and future headquarters,”
said a release from the state. “When we started Blue Run Spirits in
October of 2020, we never imagined a distillery would be in our future,
but our unprecedented growth has deemed that a necessity, which is an
incredibly exciting prospect for our entire team,” said Blue Run Spirits
CEO and co-founder Mike Montgomery, noting the “generous support” of the
commonwealth through various incentive programs. The company already has
released 10 bourbons and rye whiskeys, and its 2022 volume is expected
to quintuple its 2021 total, with sales projected at approximately $15
million Since the start of the Gov. Andy Beshear administration, the
commonwealth’s spirits industry has announced more than 50 new-location
or expansion projects totaling over $1.1 billion in planned investments
and creating more than 900 announced full-time jobs. Currently,
approximately 60 spirits facilities directly employ more than 5,300
people.

The world’s first nailable solar shingle will soon be produced in
another Georgetown, the latest city north of Austin (after Pflugerville
and Round Rock) to demonstrate meteoric growth. Standard Industries’ GAF
Energy announced the project in July. A lease has been signed, and the
450,000-sq.-ft. facility is expected to be complete by June 2023. “Once
improvements are complete, the new facility will serve as the company’s
second U.S. manufacturing center for its award-winning solar roof,
Timberline SolarTM,” said a news release. The first one is in San Jose,
California. “Featuring the world’s first nailable solar shingle,
Timberline SolarTM is the only roof system to directly integrate solar
technology into traditional roofing processes and materials. The
buildout of the property and its ongoing operations will result in
hundreds of new, U.S.-based, clean energy manufacturing jobs and build
on GAF Energy’s ongoing effort to deliver a solar roof product that is
assembled in America.” “Georgetown has a long track record as a clean
energy leader,” said GAF Energy President Martin DeBono, “so it is the
perfect home for us to build the future of solar.” The company will
receive a total combined incentive package worth more than $3.24 million
for the project.
