Power management company Eaton is preparing to double its production capacity in both El Paso and Nacogdoches, Texas. The combined $250 million in expansion projects allows for an increased supply of electrical power distribution solutions. In adding 200,000 sq. ft. to the company’s Nacogdoches site, Eaton will introduce new pole-mount and pad-mount transformers which will address the surge in energy demand faced in the east Texas region. “Utilities across the U.S. are modernizing critical infrastructure to accelerate a smarter grid and clean energy future,” said Eaton Power Delivery and Regulation Senior Vice President Guillaume Laur. “Our solutions are vital to make these projects a reality, and we’re making steady investments to support our utility customers.” These investments will ease capacity challenges at Eaton’s largest manufacturing facility in Waukesha, Wisconsin, while creating 600 new jobs in El Paso and 200 new jobs in Nacogdoches. As noted in the November issue of Site Selection, the company also is investing in El Paso’s cross-border sister community of Juarez, Mexico, and other North American locations.

In an effort to expand its project portfolio and meet demand in the North American market, construction equipment manufacturer Doosan Bobcat will invest $300 million in Monterrey, Mexico. The new, nearly 700,000-sq.-ft. facility will focus on production of the company’s M-series compact loaders, allowing for its Gwinner, North Dakota, location to shift focus to manufacturing R-series compact loaders. This move allows Doosan Bobcat to increase production capacity by 20% in the North American market, according to the company’s release. “Over the past five years, Doosan Bobcat has experienced rapid growth, doubling in size, and demand for our products continues to rise,” said Doosan Bobcat Vice Chairman and CEO Scott Park. “The increase in production capacity enabled by our new facility will serve as a foundation for sustained long-term growth.” The plant is expected to become operational in 2026, creating between 600 to 800 new jobs in the region.

Last week, global biotech company Moderna began construction on its first vaccine manufacturing facility in Shanghai, China. The company has invested a little over $500 million in its 44-acre Moderna China R&D and production headquarters project, which is located within the Shanghai Xinzhuang Industry Park. Pharmaceutical products produced at this plant will solely serve China’s market, according to the company. Regardless of political tension between the United States and China, Moderna’s establishment in the country joins operations from U.S. pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson, who have a long-standing presence in China.
