The 10 Standards of Successful Leaders

People who have made a lasting mark on economic development – people like Mac Conway, George Jenkins, Robin Ronne, Tim Kaine, Dave Heineman, Mick Cornett, Richard Allen, R.T. Rybak and others – have at least one thing in common:

They are exceptional leaders of people.

They would be the last to admit that they alone were responsible for their success, and they would also be the first to celebrate the accomplishments of their teams.
Harvesting the leadership principles from their lives has been the passion of Ron Starner, general manager and executive vice president of Conway Data Inc., and executive director of the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC).

In the pages of his new book, “The 10 Standards of Successful Leaders,” Starner outlines 10 principles not merely as a blueprint for economic success, but more importantly as a reliable plan for an impactful life.

From the life of former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, there is this lesson: “Humble leaders are always generous with their time and willing to teach others.”

From the life of Publix Super Markets founder George Jenkins, we learn that “Sacrificial leaders regularly make long-term investments into their endeavors and organizations.”

And from the life of the late Mac Conway, founder of Site Selection and of IAMC, we learn that true leaders “always seek to improve the quality of life of others.”

These and many other life-changing lessons are shared in the pages of “The 10 Standards of Successful Leaders,” culled from years of interviews of people who have literally changed the course of history by the way they led others.

“As an editor and key association executive, Ron has enjoyed a rare opportunity to study successful people,” Conway said earlier this year. “For years he has applied his talents to the analysis of factors that enable some individuals to become great achievers. Thus his views and opinions deserve wide attention.”

If leadership is your passion, or if you aspire to be a leader, then “The 10 Standards of Successful Leaders” will serve as a valuable aid. To read an excerpt of this book, click here.
