Development Hall of Fame Inducts 3 Honorees
Site Selection magazine, the Official Publication of the Industrial Asset Management Council, and publisher Conway Data Inc. announced at the IAMC Fall Forum in Memphis that three more honorees have been inducted into the Development Hall of Fame. The Development Hall of Fame honors extraordinary development efforts that dramatically improve people's quality of life. This year's award winners, presented at the Fall 2004 Professional Forum of IAMC at The Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tenn., are as follows: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, honored for his aggressive and highly successful programs that have transformed Dubai into one of the most business-friendly nations in the Middle East. Among his successes is the Jebel Ali Free Zone, which houses more than 1,100 major corporate operations. The late Juscelino Kubitschek, former president of Brazil, honored for his 1956 relocation of the nation's capital, moving it from Rio de Janeiro to remote Brasilia. The move sparked a welcome burst of economic development in an area of Brazil once mired in deep poverty. E.G. Whitlam, the former prime minister of Australia, honored for his work in environmental development. Whitlam spearheaded the passage of 1975's Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act. That act has successfully protected the Australian reef's fragile ecosystems. More extensive profiles of the winners will be posted at www.conway.com/halloffame. |
